A worked example
Open and close a 10-contract single-leg stock option trade. At tastytrade that is $10 to open and $0 to close, so $10. At TradeStation, at 0 to 500 contracts a month, it is $0.80 times 10 contracts on each side, so $16. Exchange, clearing, and regulatory fees are extra at both. At higher monthly volume, the TradeStation figure drops.
TradeStation shows a separate table for clients outside the US, with a $5.00 ticket charge per stock or options trade. tastytrade does not accept Canadian accounts.

It depends on volume and order size. tastytrade charges $1 a contract to open stock and ETF options, capped at $10 a leg, and $0 to close. TradeStation charges $0 commission plus a fee of $0.80 a contract each side for single-leg trades at 0 to 500 contracts a month, and less at higher volume. Exchange, clearing, and regulatory fees apply at both.
Does either broker charge a platform fee?
tastytrade says it has no subscriptions. TradeStation lists a platform subscription of $99.99 a month for people who do not have a TradeStation brokerage account. Its pricing page does not list that fee for brokerage clients.
Can Canadians use tastytrade or TradeStation?
tastytrade does not currently accept Canadian accounts, per its help center. TradeStation availability for Canadian residents is unverified. We found no official TradeStation page that confirms or rules it out.
Do they work with options bots like Option Alpha or Option Omega?
Yes, both connect to Option Alpha, and Option Alpha Pro is $0 a month with a qualifying tastytrade account of at least $5,000 or a TradeStation account of at least $10,000. Option Omega Premium connects to both, and TradeStation pays for Premium if you keep at least $25,000 linked and send at least 75% of live automated trades there.
