Questrade alternatives

Questrade is a Canada-focused self-directed brokerage with TFSA / RRSP / FHSA (and other registered) accounts plus published options fees — not charting SaaS and not a U.S. retail brokerage on-ramp for most U.S. residents. Alternatives below may be other brokers; each row is labeled for geography and job-fit. Keep / Gain / Lose — not a ranking, not a “#1,” not paid placement, and not financial advice.

Keep Questrade when…

Keep Questrade when the job is a Canada brokerage with TFSA / RRSP / FHSA (and other registered) accounts plus self-directed trading at $0 commissions on stocks & ETFs and $0 US equity options contract fees — with CAD options at CAD 0.99/contract and US index options moving to US$0.99/contract from market open 2026-09-28 (variable grid until then). Capture 2026-09-25. Live review; no affiliate URL on this directory.

Skip Questrade if you need a U.S.-resident broker on-ramp (Photo ID Help: U.S. residents unable to open accounts in most cases), assumed free CAD / US index options, or your primary job is charting SaaS / unusual-options flow software rather than a Canada brokerage account.

Wealthsimple is the closest Canada-first retail contrast. Interactive Brokers is the Canada-capable pro broker contrast. thinkorswim is a U.S. Schwab platform (geography labeled). tastytrade is a U.S. options-focused broker with Canada not supported. Job-fit labels matter — especially for “questrade vs wealthsimple” queries.

WealthsimpleCanada-first retail contrast — Trade $0 + managed Invest

  • Gain: Canada-resident brokerage with TFSA / RRSP / FHSA on Trade, published $0 stock/ETF commissions, and US$0 equity/ETF options — plus optional managed Invest (Core 0.50% / Premium 0.40% AUM) on the same firm.
  • Lose or watch out: Different product mix than Questrade’s $0 US equity options + CAD 0.99 CAD options + dated US index schedule. Managed Invest is a secondary Wealthsimple story. Not a ranking of who is cheapest in Canada.
  • Verified price cue: Trade equities $0; equity/ETF options US$0; Invest Core 0.50% / Premium 0.40% — from Wealthsimple capture. ($0 stocks/ETFs · Options US$0 · Invest 0.50% · Canada only)

  • Lose or watch out: Not Questrade’s Canada retail $0 equities / $0 US equity options framing. IBKR Lite US stocks are US Residents Only on that table — do not assume Lite $0 for Canada residents. More operational complexity than Questrade self-directed. Not a ranking.
  • Verified price cue: US Lite USD 0.00 (US residents); Pro Fixed USD 0.005/share; Pro Tiered from USD 0.0035/share; Canada CAD Fixed CAD 0.01/share — from IBKR capture. (Lite $0 US stocks · Pro from $0.0035 · CA CAD commissions · TWS / Portal / Mobile)

Wealthsimple’s Help eligibility requires living in Canada. Interactive Brokers Canada also lists TFSA / RRSP / FHSA with published CAD commissions (Lite US stocks remain US Residents Only). tastytrade marks Canada as NOT SUPPORTED; TFSA is N/A. Thinkorswim leaves Canadian resident eligibility unverified. Confirm before you open an account or pay.

FAQ

Is this a ranked list of Questrade alternatives?

No. There is no “#1,” no star rating, and no paid placement order. Keep / Gain / Lose is a job-fit map against our live reviews — including questrade vs wealthsimple as a fit contrast, not a winner.

Can tastytrade replace Questrade for Canadians?

No as a new retail on-ramp. Official tastytrade Help marks Canada as NOT SUPPORTED. Do not treat a U.S. options broker as a TFSA / RRSP substitute. Label the geography before you compare.

Is this financial advice?

No. This site is a directory of software and brokerage platforms. Commissions and registered accounts are research views, not a signal to trade or switch brokers.
